OVERVIEW

Job Title – Worship Pastor for St. Peter’s Notting Hill

Location – St. Peter’s Church, Kensington Park Rd, W11 2PN/ Office, 59a Portobello Road, W11 3NW

Work Pattern – 12 - 15 hours a week (Tuesdays and Sundays)

Salary – £25,000 - £30,000 pro rata (depending on qualifications and experience)

Contract – Permanent

Start Date – January 2019

Reports To – Rev Pat Allerton (Vicar)

PURPOSE AND ROLE

St Peter’s is a vibrant and growing charismatic evangelical church set right in the heart of Notting Hill. We are keen to recruit a passionate, prayerful and envisioned Worship Pastor to lead the church into a new season of sung worship. This person will have enthusiasm in worship, experience of the ministry of the Holy Spirit and a passion for Jesus Christ and His church.

The Worship Pastor at St Peter’s will have a heart for seeing worship cover every element of church life and will encourage the congregation to step into new expressions of worship, whilst also maintaining and offering more traditional styles as well, as needed.

The Worship Pastor will draw out the varying gifts of the congregation, establish and mentor worship leaders and oversee all worship bands and musicians. They will also lead children’s and family-friendly worship as a crucial element of growing the 10.30am service.

This role requires a good knowledge and extensive experience of AV. The Worship Pastor will have responsibility for all areas of AV and production, as well as recruiting and equipping volunteers for this task. Confidence in setting up and maintaining high quality sound, equipment and clear visuals is essential.

Character and skills

 Good interpersonal skills; able to communicate with all people, whatever their age, background or life stage

 Outgoing and personable, with some pastoral skills

 Humble and servant-hearted, with a willingness to help and serve in other areas of the church’s life

 Able to set realistic goals and targets and able to set a sustainable pace of work

 Able to identify gifts and encourage/develop individuals musically and in worship leading through mentoring, training and feedback

 Able to work according to set priorities (agreed with the vicar) and action them accordingly

 Able to maintain confidentiality and discretion

 Model the importance of a living and ever-growing relationship with Jesus. Reflect the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ in the conduct of duties, interaction with others and personal life

Knowledge and Experience

 An accomplished and experienced musician with instrumental and vocal skills and the ability to train and lead others in their musicianship

 Previous experience leading worship in a church setting

 Open to the prophetic in worship

 Experienced in sound technology and able to train volunteers on the sound desk and AV equipment

 Comfortable with the responsibility of leading worship groups and exercising oversight of voluntary teams

 A good team builder with experience of supervising, motivating and encouraging others

 Proven organisational and administrative skills

 Experience in managing a budget area

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sunday

 Plan the music for inclusion in Sunday services (10.30am and soon to be a 6pm)

 Rehearse with band and musicians each Sunday morning

 Regularly lead and play in the worship teams

 Oversee the AV requirements for Sunday services, including managing volunteers

Midweek and other

 Rehearse with musicians, keeping them up to date with new songs

 Organise and lead music at mid-week meetings, celebrations, Alpha etc (as required)

 Assist with providing music at occasional services such as weddings, funerals, etc, or arrange for others to do so, e.g. organists

 Facilitate any AV required for midweek events including external bookings and evening church events

 Plan for seasonal services (Christmas and Easter etc)

 Work with and towards other potential midweek services and ministries such as 0-3s toddler group and messy church

 Attend and participate in a weekly staff meeting and lead worship during the weekly staff Home Group

 Assist the church in maintaining and developing an active prayer life

Training and Oversight

 Develop and implement a vision and strategy for enhancing Spirit-led musical worship

 Recruit and train new volunteer musicians; pastor members of the regular music groups

 Recruit, train and monitor volunteers for all AV elements at the church

 Connect with national worship networks

 Manage and maintain the musical instruments and music technology equipment, keeping up to date with technical developments

Administration

 Arrange rotas for musical aspects of Sunday and midweek worship and participate or lead as required and as agreed

 Take responsibility for the music budget

 Maintain an inventory of equipment and build a library of music and support materials

WORKING REQUIREMENTS

 TBC but essentially Tuesdays and Sundays

 Occasional evenings and weekends as required (time off given in lieu)

 Annual Parochial Church Meeting

 Parish Weekend

 Easter, Harvest, Christingle, Crib and Christmas services

 Staff development and training events

 25 days annual leave (max 5 Sundays)

 Enhanced CRB check

 There is a 3 month probationary period
