HOBSON'S CHOICE, Harold Brighouse's comedy performed by Ladbroke Players
The Ladbroke Players are performing Harold Brighouse's classic Lancashire comedy, HOBSON'S CHOICE on Thursday 28 to Saturday 30 March in St Peter's Church, Notting Hill. The play, set in 1880's Salford, depicts family relationships in Hobson's Bootmaking Shop, making sharp but affectionate social observations. Henry Horatio Hobson is full of sound and fury but prefers drinking down the pub with his cronies, leaving his bossy but astute daughter Maggie to run the business - a feminist in the making. His two younger daughters are more interested in clothes and young men, but Hobson is too mean to provide marriage settlements. Meanwhile Maggie has her eye on gawky, but talented assistant bootmaker Will Mossop for a partnership - only he's not sure what kind she has in mind... Maggie comes up with plans to foster business and romance for all the Hobson women - but will her plans work? This entertaining comedy is in aid of St Peter's Facade Appeal.
